What is Invisalign

Invisalign aligners are the clear alternative to the traditional metal braces. The clear aligners are custom made and are virtually invisible and fit snugly over your teeth. Each aligner shifts your teeth slightly, moving them horizontally and vertically and even rotating them when needed. The aligners are engineered to use the right amount of force in the right places at the right times.

Aligners are typically switched out every week or two, and gradually move your teeth into position. This is planned out through a custom treatment plan that is mapped out by your dentist.

Advantages and disadvantages

There are many advantages how aligners compared to traditional metal braces:

1) Aesthetic : Invisialign clear braces are barely noticeable compared to traditional metal braces.

2) Comfortable : Patients are able to remove their Invisalign trays before eating and for any other reasons whereas the traditional metal braces cannot be removed without professional help.

3) Safe: Invisalign clear trays are not sharp. Since they are removable, oral hygiene; eg. brushing and flossing can be easier; thus patients are normally at a lower risk for developing decays and gingival diseases with removal braces as compared to traditional metal braces.

FAQ

Will I need to wear a retainer after to prevent my teeth from moving again?

Most dentists recommend that anyone who has completed orthodontic treatment, whether braces or Invisalign treatment, use a retainer to prevent teeth from gradually shifting back towards their initial position. Because every case is different, please speak to your dentists to confirm if you need post-treatment retainers, and if they are needed for both upper and lower teeth. Source:
