Understanding X-Rays

February 3, 2019

Ever wondered why x-rays are needed and what they are for? X-rays are important for preventative dental care, highlighting many dental issues that need to be cared for. They are also useful for treatment planning, which helps the dentist to keep track of what procedures are needed for your teeth!

Understanding the common types of x-rays:

1. Panoramic - usually taken for future orthodontic treatment plans and  used to capture a view of the teeth, jaws, nasal area, sinuses, and jaw joints.

2. Periapical - shows a view of the entire tooth, from the crown to the bone supporting the tooth (roots).

3. Bitewing - provides a visual view of the lower and upper teeth in the back of your mouth, allowing the dentist to see how the teeth touch each other.
